A love story
“Will you marry me?” said Mike with trembling hands gripping a glass of red wine, his fingertips blanched by the pressure he was exerting on the poor glass, which was about to crack under the stress-driven pressure. He was by no means an inexperienced man, both in business and women, boasting a successful business at the time, but this moment didn’t promise to be an easy one. Neither was Macy a naïve woman who could easily be shaken by infatuation. Being a well-off woman, she had extensive travel experience around the globe, driven by high-flying ambitions, and looking for promising prospects in business. In fact, she might have seen business prospects in Mike too; however, we all know that love never accords with your rational intellects. Therefore, as one might expect, she was overwhelmed by a rush of emotions taking over her logical thinking. Feminine emotions she wasn’t even aware of until that moment conquered her for a moment and a question that would normally elicit a yes/no answer from a down-to-earth woman like her awakened strange emotions inside her and drove her into being slightly coy.
Of course, the man and the woman have developed their own means in romantic combat during the course of evolution, so Mike had his own tools too and he had come well-prepared. Knowing what effects wine could have on human sensory perception, he had ordered an exquisite red wine for the occasion, and the wine was going to do the job for him.
A moment passed silently with the two gazing at each other and…
Why wine?

Wine is in love with romance
What comes to your mind when you think of a date? Chocolate? A candle-lit dinner? Passionate kisses? Songs? Poetry? Well, add a glass of wine to any of them and all of them will stand out in color. Wine is the ‘Higgs Boson’ of a romantic date, except that, instead of mass, it gives color to everything around it. Search through poetry and prose throughout history and rarely do you find a love story without wine in it, and even if you do, I believe the wine is there, it is not just mentioned, probably because of religious reasons or social stigma. In fact, wine has always loved romance. Take seven thousand years of winemaking and well, you will have some rough idea why this is so.
Besides, who would want their date to go wrong? If you can save your love life with a glass of wine, then why not? Do it! And here are some reasons why, along with some suggestions.
- Red is the color of love
Well, first I have to mention that you are the boss, if you have a taste in wine and you know what type of wine you will both enjoy then go for that. Go for the ones that have always pleased you. The gist is for you to have an exceptional experience, so go for any type that gives you a pleasant feeling, whether it is Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, or Pinot Noir; you have a wide range of choices. Yes, it is true, wine, whether white or red, sweet or dry, is a good companion for your romance; however, if it’s your first date or if you’re in doubt, I would go for red wine. The color red is historically associated with love; it is beautiful, sexy and arousing. A dark red color is alluring and seductive, paving the path for your love life. If you were to be framed in a shot in a moment on your date, sitting with your partner at a table, what could be a better color than red in a painting of you and your loved one holding red glasses and toasting your eternal love?
Further still, if you are one of those who get easily confused with several names and lose their confidence when confronted with numerous names, I have some clear concrete suggestions for you which I have included in a further chapter in this article, so stay with me and read through the end.
2- Wine is women-friendly
One of the reasons why you should go for wine on your date is that women generally prefer wine to other beverages. Wine has a moderate nature compared to other spirits, and it corresponds to a woman’s staged and sequential definition of love: love develops in stages and it starts in moderation. After all, it is women who are the ultimate decision-makers, so why not forget your masculine ego and start to please them in any way you can. So if you are a man in the early stages of a romantic relationship, be wise and opt for wine on your date, and red wine in my opinion; even the heaviest boldest type of varietals will leave a sweet puckering sensation on the palate that could bring a smile to any face. Have a few glasses together and love will radiate around you.
3- Wine is the child of marriage
For a successful date, all the components of the setting must be in harmony, that is, they must comply with the nature of romance. After all, life is all about harmony, isn’t it? The more homogeneous you set your romantic occasion the more successful it will come out to be. Wine is the child of several combinations at different layers; on one hand, it is the final result of the cooperation between passion, love, respect, and creativity from the vineyard to the bottle, and on the other, its nature encompasses mystery, history, science, and art; and they are almost all the components comprised in love; it is the consummation of a marriage between love and craftsmanship; therefore, is it not a perfect match for a date? Voila! Absolute harmony!
4- Wine is aphrodisiac
Wine is said to be aphrodisiac; everything about it evokes ‘love’ and ‘passion’ in mind. It is ritualistic, pretty, sexy, and it has a history interwoven into its nature that can mystically awaken or reawaken love in your romance. It has been drunk in many religious rituals, enjoyed in countless romantic occasions, and it has been a patient company of artists throughout history. It is even science-friendly too; studies in the field of neuroscience and behavioral psychology indicate that the feeling you get from drinking wine is similar to the oxytocin-induced feelings you have when you are in a romantic relationship. Oxytocin is the same hormone that arouses the desire for body-to-body contact in partners. So the next time you order wine on a date, remember that history, literature, religion, and science are all on your side.
- Suggestions for dummies
Now as I promised, in case you need concrete advice, I will list some varietals here for you so you will have some names on your mind on your next date.
- Cabernet Sauvignon: Sometimes romantically referred to as ‘cab’, this red wine varietal is one of the most popular ones around the globe and especially in the U.S. The resulting red wine tends to have tones of rich dark fruits and moderate acidity along with balanced tannins, and if you have forgotten, tannins are natural compounds that exist in grapes skins and are responsible for that dryness you feel on your palate when you drink wine. Cabs are dry in nature and they could range from medium-bodied to full-bodied depending on the production style. They are also very well paired with food, especially rich fatty food like red meat, grilled meat or steak.
Speaking of Cabernet Sauvignon and romance, why not go for Nik Pegasus Gold on your date? The reason lies in the story behind it and you will find it out at the end of this article. It is a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot-based wine with a rich balance of tannins and acidity. You can also whiff tones of exotic spices and ripe red berries along with touches of tobacco, coffee and chocolate. It is tangy in the mouth and leaves a puckering sensation on your palate. You can also pair it well with food, chocolate, or you can drink it as a stand-alone.
- Merlot: Another popular variety of red wine, Merlot is closely related to Cabernet Sauvignon. In fact, the two have been so closely in cooperation with each other that you can call them sisters. However, there are very slight differences in taste between the two. For instance, Cabernet Sauvignon might be slightly bolder due to its higher tannin content; there are bolder Merlot types as well, though, depending on the climate they were grown in. Of course, the two have been combined in many varieties, resulting in numerous high-quality wines.
Note that if you are looking for good quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, an area you can focus your attention on is California. Wines produced in Paso Robles and Napa valley are of exceptional value; the vineyards up there are quite well-known.
Mike and Macy
“yes..” said Macy after a few awkward breath-taking moments. She said it in a low voice, her gaze still locked on Mike’s, trying hard to conceal her delight. Mike was the first to smile, his hand slowly sliding on the table to hold hers affectionately. After all, it was a date to be remembered. They made a toast to their love with their free hands, already picturing their future life together. The two got married a short while later.
Now, why is their marriage of any significance? Well, being both keen wine lovers, Mike and Macy founded Nik Pegasus together, a wine-producing company with its vineyards in Paso Robles, California, creating high-quality, prestigious wines.
So the next time you order Nik Pegasus on your date, remember that it is the result of a marriage, and who knows? The wine might have that mystic effect on your romance and will bond you in an eternal vow of love, just like the founders!
